What Is Lithium Metal?

Lithium metal is the lightest solid element and the most energy-dense anode material known. It delivers nearly ten times the theoretical capacity of graphite, which is used in today’s lithium-ion batteries.

Instead of serving as a simple ingredient, lithium metal anodes are engineered structures where pure lithium is plated onto copper foil to create the active negative electrode for next generation battery chemistries including solid-state, lithium-sulfur, and lithium-air.

Direct to Anode Technology

EnergyX’s DMX process is a proprietary roll to roll electrochemical plating technology that deposits high purity lithium metal directly onto copper foil. This system replaces the multi step legacy process that relies on lithium chloride molten salt electrolysis followed by casting, pressing, and rolling.

Direct plating eliminates multiple costly intermediate steps

Highly tunable lithium thickness from 5 to 50 microns

Continuous roll to roll manufacturing supports scalable automation

Uniform, dendrite free deposition for improved safety

Closed electrochemical system improves purity and reduces contamination risk

Lower capital and operating costs through process simplification
