Project Overview
The Great Salt Lake Is Sitting on a Critical Minerals Goldmine.
The Ogden, Utah brine region holds 2.4 million metric tons of identified lithium carbonate equivalent one of the richest domestic lithium resources in the United States. EnergyX and Compass Minerals are turning that resource into a commercially operational, American-made lithium supply. Project Powder Hound™ is how it gets done.
EnergyX will design, construct, and operate the facility on land Compass Minerals currently uses for potassium, magnesium, and salt production integrating lithium recovery into an already active industrial operation.

American-Made Lithium
- Securing a reliable, domestic supply of lithium is critical to America’s clean energy future — and national security. That’s why the U.S. Department of Energy selected EnergyX for a $5 million grant to advance lithium extraction from geothermal brines — a cutting-edge, sustainable source of this essential mineral.
- Headquartered in Austin, Texas, EnergyX is ideally positioned to drive innovation and supply chain resilience from the heart of the United States. Our close proximity to key operations ensures efficient development and rapid deployment of American-made lithium technologies.
- In a world increasingly reliant on lithium for batteries, electric vehicles, and grid storage, building a domestic lithium supply isn’t just smart economics — it’s a strategic imperative.
PROJECT PLAN
Phase One ~10,000 TPA Extraction from existing Compass Minerals ponds currently used for active mineral production. Fastest path to first lithium output.
Phase Two +20,000 TPA Expansion into upstream brine concentration ponds, scaling total production to 30,000 tpa at full build. Together, both phases represent nearly $400 million in total EnergyX investment.
